AG Building Construction

AG BUILDING CONSTRUCTION Grades: 11, 12; 1 Term, Ability = All
 
This course is designed to give the student a background in construction principles and building environments. Students will spend time in the classroom learning and building codes, blueprint reading, and construction planning. Students will learn techniques in wall, floor, and roof layout and apply these skills to an actual group construction project in the lab. Students will design and build storage sheds for the local lumberyard as part of their class project. Units in concrete and masonry construction will be covered with students doing a small concrete project around school or in the community. Students will complete a unit in land surveying using a variety of equipment, simulating the site preparation and foundation layout for a building. Students will have the chance to learn basic plumbing tools and components and complete a number of lab activities with a various plumbing materials. Basics of electrical wiring and environmental control systems are covered in the class with students working on various lighting and electrical control circuits in the lab. Various career awareness activities will be presented throughout the class.
