Early Childhood Family Education

Foley ECFE logo. Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is a program for all Minnesota families with children between the ages of birth to 5 years an opportunity to learn and have fun together.

Foley ECFE offers parents an early childhood education for families with children between the ages of 16 months and 5 years, not yet in kindergarten. ECFE is based on the idea that the family provides a child's first and most important learning environment and parents are a child's first and most significant teachers. Our goal is to strengthen families and enhance the ability of all parents to provide the best possible environment for their child's learning and growth. If enrolled in an ECFE only class, the parent will attend class with the child and spend a portion of the class with their child as well as time in a parent only class.

All ECFE classes are taught by licensed early childhood teachers and parent educators to provide the quality education parents are looking for. Together, parents and children, participate in ECFE activities that foster children's social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and language skills. ECFE teachers use the Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework and Early Childhood Indicators of Progress: Minnesota's Early Learning Standards provided through the Minnesota Department of Education.

A typical ECFE Class includes:
  • Parent-ChildInteraction: A time where parent and child together enjoy a classroom filled with developmentally appropriate learning activities.
  • Parent Education: These sessions provide relevant, effective education and support that encourages a healthy environment for the growth and development of families.
  • Children's Activity Time: During parent education time, children explore, gain independence, and practice social skills while under the supervision of a licensed early childhood teacher
