Hello and welcome to my FHS website!

First, a little about me…

I am originally from Brainerd and have lived in Minnesota all my life. Amy (my wife) and I enjoy cooking, camping, kayaking, jogging, and cycling. I have been to Africa, Austria and Norway and like traveling in the United States. Our last excursion was a 21 day 7000 mile road trip through the American West. I received a B.A. in Studio Art from the University of MN Morris in 1999, emphasizing in the areas of Ceramics, Printmaking and Sculpture, was apprenticed at the St. John’s Pottery at St. John’s University through the fall of 2000, and earned my teaching degree along with my Masters in Ceramics and Printmaking at SCSU in 2004. Early in my arts education I decided I wanted to share what I was learning with others, and have been teaching at FHS since 2004. I enjoy working in my home studio and listening to Ben Carter's Tales of a Red Clay Rambler Podcast, and I am currently reading ‘Unbroken  by Laura Hillenbrand.

A little about our Art Department…

It is our goal to build one of the finest high school art programs in the state of Minnesota. Luckily at FHS we have the support, space and facilities to achieve this goal. We offer a discipline based approach to the arts with a Postmodern focus: students in class receive a little history, learn some contemporary approaches to the arts, and a lot of hands on art making experience. Some new initiatives include 3D printing, rapid prototyping, design thinking, laser engraving and digital media. We are also committed to hands on activities and traditional folk art and crafts! Seniors who excel at art have the opportunity to design their own course that is designed to help them develop their own voice and style in one or more areas of art.

A little about mentoring, advising and coaching…

I coach Track and Field at FHS, and I advise the Art Club. If you’re looking to get involved it is hard to beat the opportunities available right here before and after school. You’ve got nothing to lose, come check us out!
