FHS Daily Announcements - Thursday, October 14,  2021

Students, just a reminder to check the Guidance office window for job opportunities or the FHS website Guidance Office/Student Opportunities https://www.foley.k12.mn.us/page/2758/custom/6177

The Deficiency List has been run.  If you currently have a failing grade in any of your classes, you will be unable to participate in extracurricular competitions or activities until your grade has been brought up to passing. If this affects you, please pick up an Academic Eligibility Form in the Activities Office and have it signed by the teacher of the class that is affected.  Return the signed form to Corri Gross in the office to be cleared immediately for participation.

The weight room will be closed Monday, October 18th and 19th due to conferences.

A representative from the Army will be here today to talk about ROTC for all branches of the Military. Sign up on Flex Manager or see Sabine in the Guidance Office. The Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) is a college-to-military program that trains students to become commissioned officers while also earning their academic degrees.

Foley High School Theatre Department: Those interested in having clothing items with "Foley High School Theatre" can go to the Henry's Embroidery to order. The online store closes on October 25, 2021. https://henryesp.com/pages/online-store#test

Students interested in applying to University of Minnesota Duluth: The PRIORITY DEADLINE for admission and scholarship consideration is DECEMBER 15. We recommend that all students apply for admission early for best program availability, as well as housing and registration priority.  UMD is again offering a first year $500 early applicant scholarship for high school students who apply for admission by October 15. We have also made permanent our decision to be a “test optional” school, and there is additional information on being “test optional” at d.umn.edu/testoptional.  Students should be directed to d.umn.edu/apply for more information on the application process and to begin their application for admission to UMD.

Just got word that University of Crookston and Morris are free to apply the whole month of October.

All Students: if you are looking for volunteer hours, see Sabine in the Guidance Office. ECFE is hosting a fall event this Friday, October 15 and is looking for volunteers for a few hours from 5:30 pm to 7:30 - 8 pm.

Seniors: if you need help with any College and Career Readiness (applying to a school, transcript requests, career searches) flex time is a great time to stop in the guidance office for assistance.

This week is National School Lunch Week. The theme is "WIld About School Lunch". So with that in mind, Child Nutrition went Wild!  October is also Farm to School Month...So for Thursdays menu, we are having Local foods from our Local farmers. Better yet, the local farmers are visiting us during lunch on Thursday. Thursday is also the Great Lakes Apple Crunch in Minnesota, so we are going to also crunch apples during lunch! So there will be signs around school about our local farmers, and the menu is highlighted on what our menu will be. So please thank our local farmers, and tell them how much you appreciate them growing the foods that they do for us.
