Introduction to Art
INTRODUCTION TO ART Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12; 1 Semester, Ability = All Please see art courses below that require Intro to Art as a prerequisite. The student will use various art materials to study the basics of drawing and design. Each student will complete the course with greater insight into the production, evaluation and appreciation of art
Drawing
DRAWING Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12; 1 Semester, Prerequisite = Introduction to Art This course will cover a wide variety of drawing techniques and materials. Time will be spent on activities that improve drawing skills as well as projects that develop the young artist’s individual style. Introduction to Art required before taking this class – no exceptions.
Crafts 1
CRAFTS 1 Grades: 10, 11, 12; 1 Semester, Prerequisite = Introduction to Art This course will include basket weaving, tie dye, stained glass, paper making, bookbinding, candle making and other crafts. Students will be able to choose project design, size, etc. to suit his/her needs. Many useful and decorative projects will be produced. Popular for the "hobbyist." Introduction to Art required previously (* For the purpose of scheduling; only seniors will be allowed to take Introduction to Art in conjunction with this course.)
Graphic Arts
GRAPHIC ARTS Grades: 10, 11, 12; 1 Semester, Prerequisite = Introduction to Art Credit is available for “Intro to Design” which can be used at SCTC toward an Advertising Program or one elective credit in some SCTC programs. Course work will be done during Intro to Art, Graphic Arts and possibly finished through independent study. This course will include the study and practice of several types of calligraphy (freehand Lettering) plus printmaking processes. Work will include the design of buttons, greeting cards, etc. Print methods will include silk screen. Some time will be spent using the airbrush and the computer. Introduction to Art required previously (* For the purpose of scheduling; only seniors will be allowed to take Introduction to Art in conjunction with this course.)
Ceramics & Sculpture
CERAMICS & SCULPTURE Grades: 10, 11, 12; 1 Semester, Prerequisite = Introduction to Art This course will cover three-dimensional sculpture and pottery. Ceramics will cover the hand construction of pottery, glazing, and wheel throwing. Sculpture will include additive, subtractive, and constructive methods using a variety of materials. Introduction to Art required previously (*For the purpose of scheduling; only seniors will be allowed to take Introduction to Art in conjunction with this course*).
Technical Images
TECHNICAL IMAGES Grades: 11, 12; 1 Semester, Prerequisite = Intro to Art Credit is available for Adobe Photoshop which can be used at SCTC in Graphic Communication, Advertising, Web Page Design and Programming or as one elective credit. This course will include the use of the digital and 35mm camera and computer to produce exciting art work. Photography will include the study of the camera and its operations, work in the darkroom, and the compositional qualities of photos that make them visually interesting. The computer will be used to create visual images that will involve the creativity and skill of the student as we use the computer to produce art. Adobe Photoshop will be 13 incorporated into the course work. A lab fee will be included. Introduction to Art is required before taking this class.
Painting
PAINTING Grades: 11, 12; 1 Semester, Prerequisite =Intro to Art This course will cover the techniques of painting with watercolor, oil and acrylic paint. Time will be spent on selecting and arranging subject matter for a painting. This course has a strong emphasis on drawing. Students of various abilities will be encouraged to improve on his/her own skills and develop an individual style. Introduction to Art required before taking this class - no exceptions.
